Croydon Silent Film was a project ran by myself and Joanna van der Meer from the BFI.  It was a collaboration between BFI and Croydon Council with funding by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  The project was further promoted by Croydon Radio, Lend & Tend, and the Lost Format Society.  All promotional videos, posters, flyers and social media images were produced by Mark and Andrew Long (LONG-BROTHERS.com).

The aim of the project was to promote the heritage of silent film within Croydon whilst getting new people to engage with the film process.  This project was open to all and promoted an inclusive approach.  We catered for different abilities by holding workshops around Croydon and at the BFI as well as providing online resources to help people develop their ideas.  We also gave free resources to be used within the films through the website and encouraged participation through active engagement within the community.  The project didn't discriminate in terms of levels of ability within film with people being encouraged to participate whether using images, a camera phone or something more advances, emphasising that the competition would be based around ideas and concepts as aposed to quality of filming.

My main duties within this project included; creating and managing a website, social media and advertising campaign for the project + developing a schedule of works for the project + liaising with local schools and university outreach teams + liaising with press and local businesses + filming and editing with quick turnaround to get productions online for participants + organising and hosting an awards event at BFI Southbank.
